Waterlight Save Initiative Calls for Global Action on Water and Sanitation at UN Conference

Waterlight Save Initiative Calls for Global Action on Water and Sanitation at UN Conference At the 2026 UN Water Conference in New York, the President of the Water LIGHTSAVE Initiative Ero Ibhafidon, emphasized the urgent need for resilient infrastructure, global partnerships, policy advocacy, and behavioral change to tackle the ongoing challenges of access to clean water and sanitation. In his address, he called for a public enlightenment campaign to educate communities on proper water usage and sanitation practices, highlighting that the conference presents a crucial opportunity to accelerate global efforts toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6)—ensuring clean water and sanitation for all. “Water insecurity is a silent catastrophe,” he stated. “One in every three people lacks access to safe drinking water, and every two minutes, a child dies from a waterborne disease. Climate change is further exacerbating this crisis, drying up rivers and contaminating vital water sources.” The initiative stressed the importance of sustainable water management, urging world leaders, organizations, and stakeholders to prioritize long-term solutions. Recommendations included: 1. Investing in resilient water infrastructure to ensure reliable access to clean water. 2. Strengthening global partnerships to mobilize funding and expertise. 3. Advocating for policy reforms that promote equitable access to sanitation. 4. Encouraging behavioral change through hygiene education and water conservation efforts. As the world battles increasing water scarcity, the Water LIGHTSAVE Initiative reaffirmed its commitment to driving impactful change through collaborative action, innovation, and advocacy. The call to action is clear: immediate, collective efforts are required to prevent further crises and ensure a future where clean water is accessible to all.

Waterlight Save Initiative Empowers Female Street Sweepers in Lagos, Calls for Government Support Waterlight Save Initiative, a non-governmental organization, has launched a health and empowerment program in Lagos to support female street sweepers. The initiative, held at the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) premises in Ijora, aims to enhance the well-being of these women by providing essential supplies, healthcare support, and empowerment opportunities. Speaking at the event, Dr. Ero Ibhafidon, President and Founder of Waterlight Save Initiative, described street sweepers as the unsung heroes of the city. According to Dr. Ibhafidon, the initiative seeks to restore dignity, foster a sense of community, and create long-term positive change. Waterlight Save Initiative also called on the Lagos State Government and key stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of street sweepers by improving their working conditions, increasing access to healthcare, and ensuring fair compensation. Dr. Ibhafidon emphasized the importance of collective action, urging individuals, businesses, and policymakers to recognize the contributions of these workers and support initiatives that uplift them. “This initiative is about more than just providing aid—it’s about amplifying their voices and advocating for a society that values every contribution,” he explained. The effort aligns with the organization’s broader mission of poverty alleviation, improved healthcare access, and community resilience. Festive charity event for widows and orphans WSI outreach 2023

WSI team with orphans and widows

In the spirit of love, hope, and community, the recently concluded charity event for widows and orphans organized by Prince Ero Ibhafidon and his foundation was a heartwarming testament to the power of generosity. The event, aimed at providing festive items to widows and orphans, was not just about giving gifts—it was about giving hope and creating moments of joy for those in need. Spreading Joy this Festive Season: A Celebration of Giving Back Held against the backdrop of the challenges many face in our country today, the gathering brought together women and children who often go unnoticed in the hustle of everyday life. With heartfelt words and open arms, the organizers reminded everyone of the importance of sharing what we have, no matter how small. Dr Prince Ero Ibhafidon, the CEO, captured the essence of the occasion beautifully in his address: “The need for reaching out is quite alarming. Many people require our help, especially in light of the current economic challenges. We believe that through this event, we’ve been able to touch the lives of widows and orphans, ensuring they have something to take home this Christmas. The festive season is a time for sharing and giving, and as humans, it is our duty to look out for one another.” The message was clear—compassion and action go hand in hand. In times of difficulty, it is kindness that strengthens the fabric of society. Dr. Rose Orarian, Secretary of INEC, also spoke passionately, urging individuals to embrace the spirit of giving in their everyday lives: “You don’t have to wait for a big promotion or a significant pay raise to help someone in need. Even 1% of what you earn can make a tremendous difference. That small contribution you make could be the lifeline someone desperately needs.” Her words served as a poignant reminder that impactful change often starts with small, deliberate acts of kindness. The event saw the distribution of festive items, including food, clothing, and other essentials, to the widows and orphans in attendance. Beyond the material support, the smiles, laughter, and sense of belonging shared that day were immeasurable gifts. Widows found solace in a community that acknowledged their struggles, while children experienced the joy of being remembered during a season often reserved for celebration. Closing statements(A beacon of hope) As the year comes to a close, this charity event stands as a beacon of hope, urging us all to reflect on what we can do for others. Whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or simply extending a hand of friendship, we all have the power to make a widow, orphan or anyone’s life a little brighter. To those who contributed to this meaningful cause by donating, thank you for proving that together, we can build something substantial for those who need it.   https://waterlightsave.africa/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/WhatsApp-Video-2023-12-18-at-7.51.23-AM.mp4
